FMR Records
recorded live at No Somos Nada in Mexico City on Nov 9, 2022

This recording represents the first live trio performance, and first release, from Mexico City...  The Interstellar Nao trio... “Nao” referencing the Spanish galleons that sailed the Pacific Ocean between Acapulco in Mexico and Manila in the Philippine islands.

“Roughly a year after our original contact, I purchased music of Frode Gjerstad, only to discover the drummer was Gabriel and the music was on a label he owned... all in Mexico City. This kicked off another round of messaging, and me getting hip to what was happening... not only had Frode passed through the scene there, but Marco Eneidi, Elliott Levin, and Peter Kuhn had also had extended hits there. The label, Dimensional Recordings, has an absurd collection of free music from these artists, and some local artists as well.  The bassist, Itzam Cano, has been working closely with Gabriel since 2005!” – Rick Countryman

Bruce Lee Gallanter, Downtown Music Gallery NYC, wrote about Gabriel and Itzam: “an experienced Downtown jazz free/jazz expert might just guess that the rhythm team was William Parker and Hamid Drake.” Jean-Michel Van Schouwburg wrote: “Voluble alto saxophonist with a beautiful sound, Rick Countryman fits into the African-American continuum, the post-Bird / Ornette / Dolphy / McLean lingua franca…”
